Julie Kim, OD
Dr. Julie Kim has been in private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area since
1999 and joined the Optometric Center for Family Vision Care and Vision Therapy team
in 2000. She completed her undergraduate degree at UCLA and her doctorate at UC
Berkeley, where she graduated with distinction.
Dr. Kim has extensive experience in primary vision care, which encompasses
comprehensive eye examinations and the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye
conditions and diseases. In 2003, she became board certified to practice optometry in the
District of Columbia and Maryland, where she had the privilege of working at the
esteemed University Ophthalmic Consultants of Washington, helping to manage the care
of patients undergoing LASIK, cataract, and glaucoma surgeries. She is also experienced
with the precision fitting of contact lenses and glasses and is fully certified to perform
corneal refractive therapy (CRT). Her special interest in developmental and behavioral
vision has led her to complete post-graduate studies in the fields of learning-related
vision problems, strabismus, amblyopia, and traumatic brain injury.
Dr. Kim is professionally affiliated with the Alameda/Contra Costa Optometric
Society, California Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, College
of Optometrists in Vision Development, as well as the UC Berkeley Alumni Association.
She has actively spent time outside of work to participate in vision screenings for
elementary school children around the Peninsula and has volunteered with the Lions Club
to provide eye care to underserved communities in rural Mexico. In her free time, you
might see her lacing up her sneakers for a hike, honing her piano keyboard skills, or
planning her next trip abroad.
Since leaving the practice in 2007 to move to Boston, Dr. Kim has devoted the
past several years to raising her two young boys. But she is delighted to resume her role
as eye care provider at Family Vision Care. “I’m so fortunate to work alongside doctors
and staff who are dedicated to treating patients as if they are family. It feels great to be back!
